Lush Cosmetics ‘Bubblegum’ Lip Scrub

Though I do believe in keeping hydrated to prepare the skin for the long term, sometimes you just want to go that extra mile for perfection. And this includes my lips. I do moisturise my lips with a lip balm and I have started to drink more water (despite it being an almost impossible task), but sometimes your lips needs that extra bit of help for your lip product to glide on more smoothly and make the product look its best on your lips. So the LUSH Cosmetics ‘Bubblegum’ Lip Scrub comes to my rescue! Lush Cosmetics is a company that prides themselves in creating products that are organic and handmade! They use little to no preservatives and only use vegetarian ingredients. They are against testing on animals, which is a humble part of their company. They have not only lip scrubs but many other face and body products such as shower gels, moisturisers, lip tints and more!

I had never used to scrub my lips before. I had always used lip balm to absorb into my lips, so that it doesn’t look crusty or dry. But at times, this doesn’t entirely cut it. So the extra thing you do is use a lip scrub. What a lip scrub does is the product just rubs away all the dead/dry skin on your lips, leaving your lips smooth and polished.

It is an exclusive item by the company and it retails for $9.95 AUD. There are other flavours, such as Mint Julips (which is made with peppermint oil, smelling like mint chocolate chip ice cream), and Popcorn (which is made with coconut and jojoba oils, sugar, sea salt and polenta, which is suppose to smell like popcorn). To be honest, I disliked the other smells and absolute got enticed by ‘Bubblegum’. You can purchase these at pop-up stores around westfields or malls, directly from their new opened stores (such as parramatta) or directly on their Lush Cosmetics website.

Packaging

The Lush Cosmetics ‘Bubblegum’ Lip Scrub comes in a small glass jar container that contains 25g. It has a transparent container allowing you to see the product with a black lid that tells you exactly what the product is. At the back of the jar, it dates when they had made the product, as well as the expiry date, confirming that their products are fresh and well-made.

Claims

On their website, they make further claims (aside from their production) on the lip scrub.

Our fabulous lip scrubs are here to keep your kissers sweet. This one will make your lips smell like our best-selling Snow Fairy shower gel. Bubblegum is made with exfoliating castor sugar and our delicious vegan flavour to gently scrub away rough skin, keeping your lips smooth and kissably soft.

I have been using the lip scrub in conjunction with my lip butters and balms, to aid my application for lip products, such as lipsticks and lip glosses. To be quite frank, the product itself isn’t anything fancy or extraordinary. But the ‘Bubblegum’ fragrance that comes out of this jar is just amazing! But this product is what it is – a lip scrub. What I love about this product is that it is organic and does the job! It does not claim to provide any extra benefits other than leaving your lips to be more “kissable”. It is not a chemical treatment, it is purely a physical exfoliating scrub made from castor sugar. Many bloggers and youtubers have exposed us to new ways of creating organic facial masks and skin treatments and Lush Cosmetics has just made life that much easier for us.

One thing I dislike about the packaging though is how you would get the product. I can imagine moulds or bacteria would be able to grow if you are not hygienic with the jar. You are constantly exposing the product to air and I am not very fond of this type of application. Though this could easily be fixed by using other external tools (i.e. a small spatula, a cotton bud…etc).

But on the bright note, when you use this product, you apply it to the lips and when you’re done, you just lick the excess off. Ta-da! Your lips are feeling smooth! You will feel your lips to be a little bit more red and slightly plumper than before using it, but this is expected from an exfoliating scrub. I really enjoy using this product. After your hard work at scrubbing, you get to treat yourself with some sugar if you don’t mind the extra calories. An absolute selling point if you ask me.

Application

When you use this product, do not use it directly on their lips. Moisten your lips with some water and then apply the sugar. If you apply it on dry, crusty lips, it will hurt and it will not be effective. You would cause too much friction and bleeding or an irritation will occur. Simply rub the sugar over your lips, using an amount to your discretion. I personally cover my lips with a thin layer of sugar first and then scrub.

Overall, for an affordable and fun product, it was worth my buck! I love the way that it was made. The simplicity of what’s in the ingredients is great, as you know that there’s no toxic chemicals or harmful substances that could harm your skin. The product sells for itself really, one whiff of this baby and you would be hooked! Highly recommend for a quick and fun way to get rid of dry, crusty lips!
